Welcome, Danny Mogle

Patricia Garcia • Managing Editor

UT Tyler professor Danny Mogle has been named the new advisor for The Patriot Talon student media organization. Mogle has been an adjunct professor for the Department of Communication at UT Tyler for about five years and will be a full-time professor starting in the fall, where he will be teaching Writing for Mass Media and Feature Writing.

“I want the staff to do work that they’re very proud of,” he said. “Not just we got it done, but we’re really proud of this, because we took some extra time and we took some extra effort.”

Mogle attended Tyler Junior College for two years, later transferring to The University of Texas at Austin where he earned his bachelor’s degree. Mogle then returned to Tyler to receive his masters degree at UT Tyler. After college, he worked for the Corsicana Daily Sun and the Tyler Morning Telegraph.

“I was fortunate that I knew by the time I was in high school where I wanted to go to school and that I wanted to write. I just followed this little game plan.” Mogle said.

He stated that his philosophy is to figure out a couple of things every semester that are spectacular, even if that means sacrificing some daily smaller things. One has to pick their battles and find something that is going to shine.

“I’m super excited to have Danny as our new advisor and for the Talon to have some professional guidance throughout the semester,” Editor-in-Chief for The Patriot Talon Zoe McGhee said. “With moving to a new office and completely changing our format, having a permanent advisor will really seal the deal for a fresh start in student media.”
