Women runners claim ASC championship

The University’s women’s cross country team captured the first conference championship in program history on Saturday in Clinton, Miss.
Jennifer Waninger once again led the Patriots finishing fourth with a time of 25:44. Her performance earned her a first-team , All-Conference honor, as well as being named the ASC Freshman of the Year.

Fellow freshman Ginny Murphy finished three seconds behind Waninger to finish fifth. Natalie Holcomb took seventh, finishing in just over 27 minutes.
Sarah Hankla and Jessica Ball rounded out the team with 11th and 13th place finishes to edge out defending champion McMurry by nine points.
McMurry’s Carla Lewis took the individual crown with a time of 25:01.

Holcomb and Murphy join Waninger on the first team All-Conference team. Hankla and Ball earned second team All-Conference honors.
The men’s team took second place at the ASC meet behind Mississippi College.

The Patriots were led by Jeff Chandler who finished second with a time of 28:11. Chandler finished nine seconds behind individual winner Tino Gonzalez of Mississippi College.

Ross Renfroe finished fifth for the Patriots. Will Krogman and Mark Saroni followed Renfroe with finishes of 12th and 13th. Chandler and Renfroe received first team All-Conference honors, while Krogman and Saroni received second team All-Conference honors.

Both Patriots teams earned a trip  to the NCAA Div. III South/Southeast Regional in Guilford, NC on Nov. 14.
