Women’s soccer rolls to 6-1 record

Patriot men’s offensive woes continue as season nears closing

Men’s and women’s soccer teams traveled to southwestern Texas over the weekend for two American Southwest Conference games against Texas Lutheran and Schreiner University. The men’s team was defeated by Texas Lutheran 2-1 on Friday afternoon. The women’s game was canceled due to rain. On Saturday, the women took care of business by beating Schreiner 3-0. The men’s game ended in a tie.

Friday’s game against TLU, the men’s team dug themselves into a 2-0 deficit before scoring in the 86th minute.  Tony Guillen scored on an assist by Edward Anaya. Texas Lutheran’s two goals came in 5th and 66th minute by Pedro Martinez and Gumaro Sanchez. It is TLU’s first win of the season. They are now 1-8-1 overall, 1-4-1 in the ASC.

On Saturday, the women’s team continued their solid play, with their sixth conference win of the season. Lauren Daily scored the first goal of the game in 28 seconds.  Kelli Hill scored the Patriot’s second goal just a few minutes later. Daily scored third and final goal at the 7:40 mark.

As for the men on Saturday, James Ubaniak’s first half goal would be all the Patriots would get against the Mountaineers.  Schreiner’s only goal came off a penalty kick by Philip Anderson. Anderson was awarded the shot after being tripped inside the penalty box. The tie moves the men’s record to 2-3-3 in conference play. The women’s team is now third in the conference with an ASC record of 6-1.

The lone loss came against Hardin-Simmons who lead the conference with a 6-0 record. The two teams will be in action at home on Thursday night against East Texas Baptist and Saturday night against LeTourneau, Women’s games starting at 6 p.m.; men’s at 8 p.m.
