REVIEW

There are not many people left in America, but there are zombies galore. Columbus, an anxiety-ridden teenager, has to fend for himself with only a set of rules guiding his actions.

He comes upon Tallahassee, played by Woody Harrelson, who is a loner on the hunt for some Twinkies. Together, they set off for the infamous treats while trying to fight off the zombies. Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin co-star in this gruesome comedy.

“Zombieland” is a refreshing concept in an otherwise mundane industry. Just because the film is set in apocalyptic time, doesn’t mean the lessons about loneliness and companionship shouldn’t be learned now.

The chemistry between Columbus and Tallahassee is perfect. And, although the movie has some frightening moments, everyone should see it.

Special features: deleted scenes, commentary with actors and crew, “In Search of Zombieland” featurette, “Zombieland is Your Land” featurette, visual effects progression scenes, and theatrical trailers.

The featurettes are interesting and give more insight into the process of making the film. The visual effects progression scenes are fascinating to look at, but the deleted scenes aren’t anything out of the ordinary. They’re deleted for a reason.

The feature film receives four out of five stars because it is very entertaining and original. The special features receive three out of five stars because some of the features are interesting, but they could be funnier, or include a gag reel.

Rating: R for horror violence/gore and language.
