The UT Tyler Longview University Center is open to all students, even those taking classes only in Tyler. Essentially the same services available at the Tyler campus are available in Longview, which can cut commuting time considerably.

LUC services include study rooms, recently installed wireless internet access and a library. John Williams, LUC director, an administrative staff and on-site faculty and support operate the LUC.

"All 177 databases are available here and the Interlibrary Loan is very active. The catalog can be accessed online, same as at the main campus," Williams said.

Kevin Hilchey Jr., a junior who commutes to UT Tyler from Marshall, said the LUC makes studying easier. "It's always quieter on the Longview campus and its half the distance from my house," Hilchey said.

This spring, 43 courses are being offered at the LUC, averaging 8 per day and 4 per night, Williams said. Classes offered are junior, senior and masters level. "We have between 300 and 350 students enrolled. More in the fall, less in the spring," Williams said.

To use LUC library and computers, students should bring their University ID. The public can check out books with a local library card, Williams said. The LUC is located at 3201 N. Eastman Road in Longview.
