Overall the University serves the student body well, but ask just about any student and you’ll probably receive a few suggestions for improvement.

In a quick, informal survey this past week I heard a few likes and dislikes I would like to share.

1. Atmosphere.

This is what makes our University a positive learning environment and it’s not difficult to find a spot outdoors to sit comfortably and stress free while studying. The prime spots appear to be the patio tables near the lake.

2. Resources.

Students like the math and writing labs. They also like the variety of social clubs available on campus.

3. Small classes.

Fewer students per class offer a better opportunity to get to know your classmates and professor. On a less brighter note, students also expressed concerns about other issues:

4. Small campus.

Some departments just aren’t as developed as those at larger universities. Students have less classes to choose from in some departments.

5. Tuition and fees.

Tuition seems higher than we would like. Add the prices of meals, parking permits and other fees and students feel a little pinched.

Of course University administrators need to continue to embrace the positive aspects of a small campus while encouraging growth, but listening to student concerns could just be the “little details” that could make it all work.
