The 2010 American Southwest Conference Cross Country championship is scheduled for Oct. 30 on the University campus.

The women's team is the defending ASC champion and finished 17th out of 40 teams at the NCAA South/Southwest Regionals in Greensboro, N.C."Hardin Simmons, Texas Lutheran and us all seem to be running fairly strong," head cross country coach Bob Hepler said.

The men placed second last year but won the meet in 2006, 2007 and 2008. The team finished ninth out of 36 teams in Greensboro.

"It should be a really good meet between College of the Ozarks and us," Hepler said. "Mississippi College also returns a lot of runners from their championship team last year."

The team finished behind ASC competitor Hardin-Simmons at the Texas Division III Championship on Sept. 25 in Seguin.

Jessica Waninger, who finished second behind Lon Morris at the UT Tyler Invitational on Sept. 11, leads the women's team. Waninger finished third overall in Seguin and second on her home course where she missed setting a new program record in a 6K race by .52 seconds.

The men's team, led by Jeff Chandler, has three second-place finishes during the season-the UT-Tyler Invitational, Texas Div. III Championship and Rhodes Invitational-competing against some of the top runners in the country in Div. III.

The women's race will begin from the intramural soccer field and lead to the Summer's Tennis Complex and around Citizen's 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Field.

The race continues along University Boulevard to Harvey Lake, goes by Irwin Field, back up University Boulevard and finishes at the intramural soccer field.

The men will begin the same as the women's race, but carry farther down University Boulevard and up to the Art Complex. It will continue around Harvey Lake to Irwin Field, back down University Boulevard and finish at the intramural soccer field.

"We have been running better and better each meet," Hepler said. "The team has been working hard and has a great attitude this season."

The race on Saturday morning kicks off with the women's race at 8:30.

The men's scheduled start is set for 9:30.
