The University Center grand opening on Wednesday plans to feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, door prizes, free food and open house of the new student services locations.
The grand-opening ceremony is planned to start at 11 a.m. in the UC Auditorium.
During the ceremony, President Rodney Mabry plans to speak as well as Gregg Lassen, executive vice president for business affairs, and Amy Whitehouse, president of the Student Government Association.
A ribbon cutting is set to follow the speeches with closing remarks by Dr. Mabry. A tour of the University Center is planned immediately after the ceremony. Activities are planned to continue until 2 p.m.
Students can register to win a mountain bike from Coca Cola and other door prizes, according to a promotional flier. Shannon Mariani, director of food services, said he plans to offer free food provided by Aramark, Yoplait, FritoLay and other vendors. He said he also plans to provide free popcorn during the faculty book signing in Barnes and Noble.
Students can obtain other freebies at the new locations of academic advising, career services, disability services, residence life, counseling center, SGA, student life and leadership and the testing center.
The Campus Activities Board plans to have a photo booth.
Lassen said the completion of the University Center expansion and renovation is the final major construction project planned for the University at this time. He said financial consideration have put a hold on all construction plans except for maintenance.
