SGA should listen to peers on issues

Dear Editor,

I read the latest edition of the Talon and I was rather disturbed by the editorial about students griping and not showing up for the town hall meeting.

The  attitude of the editorial was very arrogant and demeaning.

The town hall meeting was scheduled from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday morning.

Every person I know who cared about the tuition has classes or works in that time period.

I personally have classes in that time period.

When I talked with some of the SGA administrators, they were very cavalier about it.

They stated that the time was what worked for all the SGA admins. However, if it doesn’t work for the students, what is the purpose of the town hall meeting?

In each of my dealings with the current SGA government, the people I personally know have been very arrogant about the tuition raise.

Yes I know it was only 3.85 percent and it’s a raise of $140 per semester.

However, just because it seems the easiest option does not mean that it is the right thing.

This tuition raise was unsupported by the people who are going to be paying it.

If our student government is supposed to represent us, they need to represent us.

This means finding out what the students want.

A bi-annual town hall meeting with limited hours that conflicts with school and work is not the best option.

I personally think that not only does the student government need to take a serious look at how they reach out to the students, but they need to lose the arrogant attitude that they know what is right for us.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
