Hollywood award winner Shia LaBeouf stars in yet another science fiction thriller titled “Eagle Eye.”
Jerry Shaw, a college dropout and perpetual loner, goes to the ATM one day to deposit a check and finds his account went from less than $100 to $715,000 overnight. Upon returning to his apartment, Shaw finds numerous boxes, crates, and barrels filled with fake passports, classified documents, weapons, and ammonium nitrate, which is used in improvised explosives.
Suddenly he gets a call from an unknown number and a calm and cool female voice telling him to flee the premises because the FBI will be arriving shortly.
Rachel Holloman, played by Michelle Monaghan, is a single mother that gets conned into following the voices instructions when her son’s life gets threatened.
The two protagonists, Shaw and Holloman, eventually meet and continue their journey together to fulfill the voice’s wishes.
“Eagle Eye” is an entertaining movie no doubt, but the award-winning cast has to shine through weak rhetoric at times. The special effects are great, but it appears the producers should have spent less on the crash scenes and put more money into the script.
The theme of living off of the grid is nothing new in the entertainment world. The 1968 film “2001: A Space Odyssey” has almost the exact same plot and “I Robot” is an even closer fit to this movie.
“Eagle Eye” is not a political or espionage thriller. The movie revolves around the concept that the electronic devices that are carried around connect you to the grid, and you can be tracked anywhere and everywhere you go.
In conclusion, “Eagle Eye” get a two out of five star rating based on great special effects and crash sequences.
