The Patriots struck first in the third inning when Whitney Haynes drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Brittanie Knowles.
Joey Cronin added two more runs in the fourth inning on an inside-the-park home run that scored Megan Hutson.
Concordia scored its lone run in the sixth inning. Vicky Recek led off the inning with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Kassie Fuller.
The Patriots added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning on a single by Knowles that scored Hutson. Stacy Shepherd shut the door on the Tornadoes in the seventh and earned the first win of the season. Shepherd allowed eight hits over all seven innings, struck out two and walked one.
Lyssa Yates received the loss. Yates pitched 3.2 innings, allowed three runs on five hits.
Game two featured dominate pitching from both teams. Kimber Bossom for the Patriots and Haylee Station for Concordia allowed a combined five hits and together stuck out 14 batters.
The game’s only run came in the second inning. Howell drew a lead off walk and Rachael Roeten came in to pinch run. Brittany Hanna moved Roeten to second on a sacrifice bunt. Amanda Busby followed with a single that scored Roeten.
Concordia loaded the bases in the third and fifth inning, but failed to score. Station received the loss despite allowing two hits over six innings. Bossom earned her first win of the season pitching a complete game shutout.
The Patriots are scheduled to travel to Farmers Branch, Texas for the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament on March 5-6.
During Spring Break, the team plans to travel to Panama City Beach, Fla. to compete in the NFCA Lead-Off Classic, against top teams in the country.
The Patriots’ next home game is scheduled for March 18 against Husson University.
