After 90 minutes of no offense, Chelsea Fiscus scored in the first minute of overtime to vault the Patriots to 1-0 victory over LeTourneau in Saturday’s homecoming game.

The Patriots took 21 shots in regulation, 13 in the second half. Only nine of their shots were on goal. LeTourneau managed only one shot the entire game. Fiscus’ only shot hit the back of the net in the 57th second of overtime. It is her first goal of the season.

The win pushes the Patriots 9-3 overall and 7-1 in American Southwest Conference play. They are currently second in the conference behind Hardin-Simmons who remains undefeated in conference play.

The men’s team on the other hand did not have to go into overtime. They defeated the Yellow Jackets 7-1 on Saturday afternoon to improve to 3-6-3 on the season and 3-3-3 in ASC play. Edward Anaya scored the Patriots first goal in the seventh minute. Eric Fiscus was awarded the assist.

Anaya picked up an assist on the Patriots second goal, which was scored by Justin NeSmith. The Patriots then scored two quick goals in the 33rd and 36th minute. Tony Guillen and Jose Lopez were both assisted by Chris Powell. The fifth goal of the game came after halftime. Jake Urbaniak scored his third goal of the season in the 51st minute. NeSmith got the assist.

Brad Bullock was responsible for the Patriots last two goals. Powell got his third assist of the game on Bullock’s first goal in minute 56. Bullock’s second goal came in the 73rd minute and was unassisted. LeTourneau’s lone goal came in minute 86. Dillon Holt scored the unassisted goal.

The Patriots still have a ways to go to make it into the ASC tournament. Only the top six teams are invited. The Patriots are currently ninth. Both games played on the soccer practice field on Saturday because of unplayable condition at Citizen’s 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

Each team was originally scheduled to play East Texas Baptist on Thursday. That game was moved to 6 p.m. Monday. It is the third time a Patriots soccer game has been canceled, moved or rescheduled due to rain.

The Patriots played Mississippi College and Louisiana College at Herrington Field in Bullard on the campus of Brook Hill on Sept. 17 and 19. The women’s game against Texas Lutheran was canceled on Oct. 9.
