Patriots drop ASC opener to East Texas Baptist

East Texas Baptist University spoiled the University's volleyball American Southwest Conference opener Tuesday night, defeating the Patriots 3-2.

ETBU and the Patriots traded wins throughout the match with the Tigers winning 25-20, 22-25, 25-18, 21-25, 15-8 at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots stayed close forcing five games but failed to hold off the Lady Tigers who came into the match with only one win this season.

The Patriots' lose snapped a five game winning streak.

Patriots Danika Waldrep had a game high 15 kills. Ashten Waldrep and Whitney Clements led the Patriots in assists.

Breann Whitaker led the game with 42 assists for ETBU. Amy Wooten had a team high 14 kills, while teammate Kerri Kalina led the game with 11 blocks.

Patriot coach Joanna Rathbun said they we were excited to play their first home and conference game but did not play to their potential.

"We didn't play the best that we could but next time we meet, we expect a different outcome with more actuate serves," Rathbun said
