It is irresponsible and immature for an individual to post updates or photos considered inappropriate on the Internet. Internet pages should be social not anti-social.

Who doesn’t have a Facebook, Myspace or Twitter account? Social networking pages are fun when used properly. But it is careless to bash other people via status updates. And posting lewd photos can be severely damaging to one’s reputation.

It is easy to forget these social networking pages are accessible to anyone with access to the Internet. Friends, family even potential employers can see the pictures from that party last Saturday night.

And some people may judge you based on what they see you doing in pictures and what you list as your interests.

University student-organization members should take what is posted on their sites into special consideration. When an individual represents a group, it is imperative that individual maintains a respectful image.

So no matter how much you hate another person or group, venting on the Internet is not a wise decision. It won’t take long for those people to find what you said and wonder how foolish you can be.

So please, do yourself a favor and go beyond the privacy settings by really considering what you post.
