Students can attend the Beginner-Friendly Mountain Bike rides at 3:30 p.m. every Friday at the Herrington Patriot Center.
The biking routes range from easy to advanced and wind through the 4.5 miles of the University campus.
“The program was inspired to raise awareness of the mountain bike trails that we currently have on our campus and to expose our students to new experiences that they might not have otherwise experienced,” program coordinator Chauncy Deller said.
Deller said students are encouraged to bring their own bikes, but is not required.
He said the HPC biking instructors could supply bikes for free to students who do not have them.
He said the groups stop during the rides for instruction as the group leaders describe the obstacles the groups will have to face, and what must be done to complete rides.
“Minimal experience is required to participate, only a bit of determination and a good attitude,” Deller said. “All other skills can be taught and learned. Participants usually take a couple of runs at the harder features so as to challenge themselves and to attempt to conquer the trail.”
