Student Government Association members passed a motion at their Feb. 25 meeting to purchase two new microwave ovens for the Business Administration Building.

SGA treasurer Andrew Barnson, who made the motion, explained why the organization was replacing one broken microwave with two. Barnson said because so many students eat lunch and dinner there, he saw a need for two microwaves.

He said sometimes there are several students waiting in line to heat their food, and two ovens would give them more time to eat. The motion stated the cost of the two microwaves must be under $200 and be paid from the SGA budget.

The student senate discussed another motion about hosting political candidates.

The motion stated, “SGA will allow political proponents/commentators access to University grounds and facilities for the purpose of providing the University community accessibility to varying political views for the 2009- 2010 academic year.”

President Amy Whitehouse explained to the assembly before they voted that if the SGA members invited one political candidate, then they would have to invite all. “We must be unbiased,” Whitehouse said. The members unanimously voted to pass the motion.
