A 3-0 victory over UT Dallas on Thursday kept the men’s soccer team’s playoff hopes alive. But a 0-0 tie with the University of the Ozarks and a victory by Mississippi College on Saturday knocked the Patriots out of playoff competition.

Against the Comets on Thursday, Nick Gonzalez scored the Patriots first goal in the 28th minute on a header. Tony Guillen picked up the assist. Jake Urbaniak scored six minutes later on an unassisted goal, and Edward Anaya found the net in the 70th minute on a pass from Guillen.

Patriot goalkeeper Mark Oliphant made four saves in the Patriots’ shutout. Oliphant made three saves in tie against the Ozarks.
