Student Government Association members elected Senator David Kelley as their new secretary.

Kelley and two other nominees vied for the position in a special election on Feb. 11.

He is a senior human resources development major, a member of the Student Government Appropriations Committee, and an SGA senator since August.

Each nominee addressed the assembly on why they would be a good choice. "I'm not only a qualified nominee," Kelley said, "I'm also very acquainted with the responsibilities of the office of secretary."

"I've been a very active member of the campus community," he said. President Amy Whitehouse asked the nominees to leave the room while the members cast their ballots.

Whitehouse announced David Kelley as new secretary after tabulating the results with SGA adviser Ona Tolliver. Kelley said when he became aware of some of the SGA accomplishments, particularly the campus improvements, he wanted to be a part of it.

He chaired the Student Fees Advisory Committee and served as leader in the Reformed University Fellowship and human resources management. Kelley's academic achievements include qualifying for the president's list and dean's list.

Whitehouse told the assembly they would vote on whether to accept Lee Radley's request for membership as a freshman senator. Radley is a civil-engineering major from Royse City, Texas and is currently a member of Kappa Kappa Psi.

"I was recruited to join SGA by a friend who is a member," Radley said. "She was always telling me how much she enjoyed it and how she thought I would too." The members unanimously voted him into the organization.
