Fos named finalist for Louisiana post

Dr. Peter Fos, the University’s provost and vice president for academic affairs is one of three finalists for the same position at Southeastern Louisiana University.

Tammy Bourg, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at Southeastern and Roger R. McNeil, founding dean of the college of Natural Sciences at California State University Stanislaus are the candidates for the position, according to a Southeastern Louisiana University press release.

The position became vacant when current president John L. Crain assumed the position of interim president in July 2008, according to a Southeastern University press release.

He came to the University in June of 2008 from the University of Southern Mississippi. Fos has a doctorate in health care analysis and a master’s in public health from Tulane University.

He also has a doctorate of dental surgery degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of New Orleans.

Fos also taught at the University of Southern Mississippi, the Medical University of South Carolina, Xavier University and Tulane Health Sciences Center.

He also served as the chief science officer for the Mississippi State Department of Health and Human Services. Fos declined to comment on his application for the Louisiana position.

Southeastern Louisiana University is located in Hammond, which is 45 miles east of Baton Rouge.
