ITHACA, N.Y. - Three University seniors received national recognition after being named to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI At-Large Team.
Brad Fenter and Nick Kreines from the men's tennis team and Brandon Ellis from the men's golf team were selected for the honors, based on voting results of more than 2,400 members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Since 1952, the CoSIDA Academic All-America Teams recognize student-athletes who excel both on the playing surface and in the classroom.
All three athletes are eligible for All-America honors were eligible. The all-district teams originated in 2002.
Fenter, named the first doubles All-American along with teammate Nick Kreines, posted a 3.80 GPA in the classroom in health and kinesiology and was inducted into the 2010 Chi Alpha Sigma honorary society.
On the court, Fenter went 23-12 in doubles play and 16-9 in singles and will finish his career in the Top 6 in all-time wins.
Kreines was named the 2010 Male Student-Athlete of the Year at UT Tyler and boasts a 3.87 GPA in finance. A four-time All-ASC and ASC All-East Division nod, Kreines was also named a 2009 ASC Distinguished Scholar.
Also an inductee into the Chi Alpha Sigma honorary, the senior from Houston will be named an NCAA doubles All-American with Fenter.
He went 22-12 in doubles play and 10-3 in singles action this season and will close his career second in all-time doubles wins (66).
Ellis capped a second All-American season on the links, being named to the PING All-American Third Team at the NCAA Men's Golf Championships last week.
During the year, Ellis had an ASC best scoring average of 72.9 with four Top 5 finishes and two individual tournament wins.
A two-time All-ASC selection, Ellis led the Patriots to an eighth place finish at the national tournament and was an individual medalist at the ASC Tournament. He has a 3.33 GPA in management.
