The recent opening of student parking in front of the new University Center is the source of much joy here at the Talon. The new parking eliminates the old 10-minute trek from Old Omen’s street curb to class.
Obvious advancement is being made in the UC and skeptical students can now witness progress. Gone are the once familiar chain link fences. A great decline in construction workers can be seen. And only a single Port-A-Potty remains.
Even though the new UC is not scheduled to open until after spring break, students can already reap the benefits of an open parking lot. Fewer cars are stationed on the street and Talon staffers working late no longer must endure long walks in the dark to the outermost parking lots.
Indeed a shorter (and seemingly safer) journey is made by walking a few feet to up-close student parking. Those students who at one time proved so bold as to park in the visitor or faculty parking no longer face the threat of a parking ticket, as they may now park just as close in front of the UC.
So here is a big “thank you” to everyone involved in the creation process of the new UC, and an even bigger thank you to a construction crew who is no longer occupying our parking spaces.
