“The Strangers”

Running Time: 88 Minutes

Rating: R for violence/terror and language.

Price: $18.86 for DVD and $27.86 for Blu-Ray

Kristen, played by Liv Tyler, and James, played by Scott Speedman, are on a romantic getaway to James’ summer home, and soon become entangled in a night of terror as three masked strangers break into their home.

Kristen and James begin to do everything they can to stay alive, and the psychological joyride the invaders put them through becomes too much to bear.

This movie is suspenseful and has a frightening soundtrack to it. There isn’t too much gore, but is still effective in illustrating what happens throughout the film.

It is predictable, but is still very intense. The masks the “strangers” wear are startling, and their voices are very disturbing. The acting is excellent, and the cinematography is impressive.

The most disturbing part of the film is the possibility that it can happen in real life and that people can be so nihilistic.

The feature film receives a three out of five star rating because it is predictable and not that scary. Special Features: Deleted Scenes and “The Elements of Terror” featurette.

The featurette is somewhat interesting and it discusses the sets, the acting, and the soundtrack that needs to be included to make a scary movie truly scary.

“The Elements of Terror” featurette also includes commentary from the actors, the director, and one of the sound editors.

The deleted scenes aren’t that good and are extremely short because there are only two scenes.

The special features receive two out of five star rating because they weren’t very engaging.

nihilistic? as a nihilist

nihilistic? as a nihilist i'm insulted. just because i don't find value in a superimposed "meaning" to life doesn't mean i'd go around killing people. i'd call the strangers "darkly absurd," not nihilistic.
