The University of Texas at Tyler Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society presented undergraduate student research at the 2010 Southcentral Region District I and II Conventions at the University of Oklahoma Biological Field Station.

UT Tyler’s Tri-Beta Kappa Xi Chapter placed second in the outstanding-chapter competition. In the poster competition, sophomore Jane Arras of Longview placed second and senior Megan Padgett of Chandler placed third.

Arras presented “Development of QRT-PCR Protocols for Rapid Xylella fastidiosa Subspecies Differentiation and Analysis” Padgett presented “Treatment of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Infection with Liposomal Aminoglycosides.”

Also at the conference, senior Chris Timmons of Longview presented his research titled, “Age Determination of the Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter by Red Wing Pigmentation.”

Other University students collaborating with the award-winning research projects were Lauren Thomas of Tyler, Anna Lauritsen of Kingwood and Brittany Pierce of Athens.
