University athletic director and head baseball coach James Vilade announced his resignation Monday, effective in early June.
Vilade has accepted a vice president position with Premier Baseball Academy in Plano, and will serve as an associate scout for the Florida Marlins. The Academy is home to the Dallas Patriots select baseball program.
Vilade came to the Tyler from the University of Dallas in 2003 and started the University's baseball program the same year. Under Vilade's helm, the Patriots are 201-58 and have won four American Southwest Conference East Division champion and an ASC championship.
The University hired Vilade as athletic director in 2008 after Dr. Howard Patterson received a promotion. The Patriots won three ASC divisional championships, eight conference championships and made nine NCAA Championship appearances under Vilade as AD.
