In a new type of comedy that can be described as a “bromance,” Paul Rudd finds that his character has not best friend before his wedding, even more so he has no male friends at all.
Rudd, who plays Peter Klaven, a real estate agent who gets along with women better than he does men. After coming home early one night and walking in on his fiancées bachelorette party, he overhears the ladies talking about who the best man will be. Point and case, Klaven has no friends.
Klaven then decides that he needs to find a best friend and best man for his wedding, so he goes on “bro-dates” to make friends.
The dates do not go so well for him. He even gets mistaken for being gay on one date.
Finally, he connects with a guy during a open house event while trying to sell Lou Ferrigno’s (who has a nice cameo role) house. The brutally honest Sydney Fife gives Klaven his number and they set out on a series of dates, and eventually become best friends.
However before the wedding, Klaven has a fallout with his fiancée over Fife and his actions over the last few weeks. Fife and Klaven “break-up” and he is left without a best man once again.
The hodgepodge cast of characters, most of which appear at one point or another on Saturday Night live, fit together relatively well for a comedy, and each has a minor role in the story.
I Love You Man is not for everyone. This flick is rated “R” for language, sexual content, and violence, however no nudity is shown.
Most of the jokes are sexually explicit, but besides this fact the movie is very funny. Hilarious is a word that comes to mind when describing this movie, vulgar is another. Even though the entire theater broke out in laughter every few minutes, there were gasps of awe from people who were not expecting that kind of joke. Conclusion: Go see this movie, with or without your girl/boyfriend. If you believe` that the humor may be crude, it is, hands down.
