A retired University professor and his wife remain hospitalized in Dallas after a May 23 car accident that left both severely injured.

Economics major Jennah Lewis owes her college education, in part, to a little dimpled ball and the people who love to hit it.

Call it philanthropic fun for participants who pay to play in the annual Patriot Golf Classic.

The event has raised $1.6 million for University scholarships since its inception nearly 34 years ago, officials said.

For Lewis, the scholarship fund is helping her achieve her goal — a college education.

“Neither of my parents got a college education,” she said. “I always did well in high school, so I knew I was going to college.”

Floating in space, childhood curiosity, relationships and holocaust victims proved to be winning themes for this year’s Student Poetry Awards winners.

Laura Ragsdale took first prize for her poem “And Linger and Orbit,” which dealt with the need for humans to connect with each other.

The University’s Robert R. Muntz Library in collaboration with the Poetry Society of Texas presented the eighth annual Student Poetry Awards at Braithwaite Hall last week.

Reggaeton and Salsa are some of the dances featured at “Latin Night” organized by the Latin American Student Organization.

Five undergraduates in business class decided six months ago the University needed an organization to promote Latin American culture and provide opportunities for students to socialize.

Ursula Diaz, Carlos Hernandez, Blanca Espinoza and David Garcia are the founding members of the Latin American Student Organization.
