University clubs and organizations looking to make a difference in the East Texas community have found the Texas Adopt-A-Highway program as a great way to improve the environment while receiving public recognition.

Junior Jeff Hawthorne, the chronicler for Sigma Alpha Epsilon, said he and his fraternity brothers believe the litter abatement program is “our duty.”

The fraternity brothers visit their adopted two-mile stretch off of Paluxy Street monthly to fill plastic bags with discarded trash.

“At Sigma Alpha Epsilon we take pride in our community,” Hawthorne said.
