Energy houses

Dirt and dust blow around Kevin Murray, junior construction management major, as work continues on the two new research homes on the corner of Campus Drive and Patriot Avenue. The long process of building the two houses is beginning to wrap up while Murray directs the completion of the home’s interior design. Students will be able to use the two homes to study the effects energy efficiency methods have on households.

The newly opened BJ’s Brewhouse, off West Southwest Loop 323, offers a vast selection of alcohol but is simply a Chili’s on steroids.

 

The atmosphere much like any other restaurant is loud and fast-paced with large flat screens and big furniture. While the wait staff was exceptional, the food was still nothing to call home about.

For years, fans have followed the lives of three young wizards, Hermione Granger, Ron Wesley and Harry Potter, watching in awe, as they defeated snakes, magical chess sets and thwarted the plans of “he who shall not be named.”

 

As the summer and the release date of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” grow closer, so does the end of the phenomenon which took the world by storm in 1997, when Potter was first introduced as a poor orphan boy with extraordinary power.

For many years, society has accepted the concept of animated characters using tobacco, whether it is cigarettes, cigars or chewing tobacco, as a norm.

 

From Yosemite Sam’s cigar to George Jetson’s smoking pipe, the concept of smoking, while not exactly encouraged, has never caused a controversy quite like the one seen in response to Universal Picture’s newest release, “Rango.”

 

The debate reached a point where anti-smoking groups demanded the ratings increase from the current PG for rude humor, language, action and smoking, to an R rating.

“Maximum Ride” is a series about six children self-named, “the flock,” who after being trapped in a laboratory called, “The School,” live their lives away from society, hiding what is described as their 98-percent human, 2-percent bird appearance.

Each consists of contestants drinking large quantities of alcohol while in a competition. However, winning first place can result in a student regretting his or her participation.

Students drink when placed in stressful settings, such as parties, to help them relax and socialize more easily. In these settings, students play games to bring them together.

He is scheduled to appear at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 at the Cowan Performing Arts Center as a guest speaker.
