Arson suspects indicted for ET church blazes

A Smith County grand jury indicted two East Texas men including a former University student on arson charges in connection with 10 church fires earlier this year.

Jason Bourque, 19, of Lindale is charged with five counts of arson and three counts of attempted arson.

It looks and feels like a college campus, but there is one key element missing: students.

That final element should be filled on June 7 with the opening of Summer I classes — just after a May 23 grand opening, said Susan Harris, administrative services officer for the Palestine campus.

For senior nursing student Angela Marx from Palestine the opening comes a little to late, but she’s happy future students can enjoy a shorter trip to class.

P2, Swoop to join in fall

Higher One plus P2 represents an equation University business officials hope students equate with easier transactions.

By next fall students can expect to carry a card that combines the qualities of Higher One or the Swoop card and the P2 card. Students now receive refunds on their Higher One card and put Patriot Bucks and Dining Dollars on their P2.
