Kimber Bossom’s no-hitter and Stacie Shepherd’s two-hit shutout led the Patriots to a doubleheader sweep over Husson University on Thursday night.

The Patriots defeated the Eagles 8-0 and 3-0 at UT Tyler Ballpark.

The Patriots scored four runs in the bottom of the first of game one. Amanda Hurt, Whitney Wyly, Amanda Busby and Ashley Klores all scored in the inning.

Wyly hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to put UT Tyler up 7-0. The Patriots added their last run in the sixth.

University athletic director and head baseball coach James Vilade announced his resignation Monday, effective in early June.

Vilade has accepted a vice president position with Premier Baseball Academy in Plano, and will serve as an associate scout for the Florida Marlins. The Academy is home to the Dallas Patriots select baseball program.

The University’s baseball team bounced back from a 22-5 loss on Saturday against Hardin-Simmons and defeated the Cowboys 8-3 on Sunday afternoon to close out the three game weekend series.

The University’s men’s basketball team solidified its spot in the American Southwest Conference tournament Feb. 26 with a 79-57 victory over Louisiana College on Thursday night.

The Patriots ended their regular season with an 80-74 victory over Mississippi College finishing the season with 15, the most in school history.

Thursday

Dexter McMarion’s three-point shot two minutes into the game gave the Patriots a 9-6 lead, which they never relinquished.

The University’s women’s basketball team finds itself with a difficult hill to climb after suffering a 79-67 loss to The University of the Ozarks on Saturday.
Ozarks jumped out to a 19-12 lead by hitting three point shots on three consecutive possessions. The Eagles extended their lead to 15 later in the half on a 15-5 run.

Sabrina Goddard led the Eagles with eight points during the run, and shot 6-6 from the free throw line. The Patriots struggled from the floor throughout the first half, shooting 34 percent from the floor and 10 percent from behind the arc.

A much needed 71-66 victory over LeTourneau on Saturday moves the University’s men’s basketball team into fourth place in the American Southwest Conference East Division. The Patriots’ win comes after a 67-52 defeat by East Texas Baptist on Thursday.

Thursday

The Tigers took control early, taking a 17-9 lead with 9:39 left in the first half. Josh Chambers and Deba Egharevba led the way with a combined 11 points.The Patriots cut their lead to two at halftime and ended the first half with a 12-4 run.

The men’s Patriots basketball team defeated LeTourneau 89-73 Saturday to keep their playoff hopes alive despite losing to East Texas Baptist 72-67 in overtime on Thursday.

The Patriots held a 14-8 lead midway through the first half against ETBU. Turnovers plagued minutes eight through four, paving the way for the Tigers to take a 22-19 lead at half time.

University’s men’s basketball team played follow the leader with the women’s team last week.

The Patriots defeated Schreiner at home 74-61, beat Hardin-Simmons 79-75 and fell to McMurry 76-66.

Monday

The Mountaineers stiffled the Patriots usual fast paced offense and suffocated the paint in the first half.

The Patriots struggled to get off good shots and missed their last seven of the first half.

The Mountaineers took a 32-22 lead at the half, due in large part to a 10-0 run.

The University’s men’s basketball team is off to the best start in program history.

The Patriots opened the season with an 87-55 victory over Southwestern Adventist last Monday.

The winning continued Friday and Saturday in the Fred Jacoby I-20 Tip-off Classic at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots defeated Jarvis Christian 88-76 Friday and Howard Payne 65-58 Saturday.

The Patriots made the first basket and held the lead the remainder of the game against Southwestern Adventist.
