There are a few college myths and legends floating around campuses disguised as university policies and common college facts.

 

One morbid rumor traveling the hallways is if your roommate dies, you automatically get As for the semester.

 

“I believe it’s true,” Lee Radley, a civil engineering major, said. “You have to fill out an application, but you will get As.”

 

Radley also said he didn’t know where he had heard it or where to find the application, but he was sure it was valid.

Alpha Phi Omega Extension Group, a community service and leadership organization, focuses on volunteer opportunities around Tyler for University students to participate in.

Young Life-College, a student organization at the University, aims to help college students step out and stand up.

Members place college students in a role to help mentor high-school and middle-school students in surrounding areas.
"Young Life helped me gain confidence and learn how to reach out to others," James Garrety, kinesiology major and copresident of Young Life-College, said. "It also challenged me with being a good example and gave me the ability to be bold in other areas of my life."

“Guys are Jerks.” Unfortunately, this statement is too often true. Most male college students are not chivalrous. Instead of seeing men opening doors for ladies, or helping someone carry a heavy load, the guys are too occupied talking with their friends or texting to show common decency.
