If this were the 90s, a Snoop Dogg stage performance alongside hip-hop messiah Tupac Shakur would just be another West Coast celebration.

AMC’s 4-time Emmy winning drama series “Mad Men” returned for its fifth season on Sunday after giving viewers an agonizing 17 months to debate the future of Don Draper and the series’ other memorable characters.

Last season’s finale cemented new and changing character relationships that will no doubt make season five dynamically distinct from its predecessors.

Draper’s plans to remarry after a tumultuous saga with ex-wife Betty will surely be a major focal point for the upcoming episodes.

While they are easily recognized as students, especially considering Leach and Watson’s Kilgore College t-shirts, the undergrads also make up a three-piece band called The Problem Preachers.

After living in Austin, Texas for three years, all the while bleeding orange, I relocated to East Texas in August to finish my college career.

Since then, I have told several new faces about the move. Nearly all of them have responded with an immediate and anguish-filled “why?”

When founding member Jeff Mangum disbanded Neutral Milk Hotel on the heels of 1998’s In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, it is unlikely that the reclusive singer/songwriter expected to generate what is now one of music’s largest cult followings.

Mangum has made only a few rare appearances since then, contributing to a handful of albums and compilations as well as occasionally returning for live performances.

Leaders from People Respecting Individuals, Differences and Equality said the organization is making strides in their effort to address lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues on campus by raising awareness and influencing University policy.

“The goal of the organization is to be the LGBT outreach and education group on campus,” PRIDE President Lanie Parr said.  “In a conservative area like East Texas, there aren’t many places where LGBT people can feel at home.”

When Ryan Adams sings the lines, “Last time I was here, it was raining/It ain’t raining anymore” in the opening track of “Ashes & Fire,” he could be referencing his previous and critically underwhelming 2007 solo release, “Easy Tiger.”

However, if there was indeed a rain cloud hanging over his latter solo efforts, the release of Ashes & Fire brings us a more relaxed Adams that seems to believe it has dissipated.
