The 11th ranked University men’s golf team advances to the NCAA Golf Championship after winning the team’s first-ever American Southwest Conference Championship last week at Horseshoe Bay.

The ASC championship is the team’s seventh consecutive tournament win, a streak Head Coach King Campbell said is the second-longest in the nation.

Three doubleheader sweeps last week clinched the American Southwest Conference East Division championship for the University’s softball team.

The Patriots ended the week defeating #1 ranked Louisiana College 4-3 and 7-4 Thursday, and Mississippi College 9-2 and 8-2 on Saturday.

The Patriots struck first in game one. Joey Cronin reached base by being hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Julie Smith moved Cronin to second on a sacrifice bunt, which led to Brittanni Hanna’s single that allowed Cronin to score.

Alpha Chi Omega is bringing Hollywood stars to the University Center Ballroom from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday.

It’s part of this year’s Mr. Alpha Chi pageant, where male University students dress up as their favorite Hollywood characters to compete for a $150 prize.

“Rumor has it there will be characters like Ron Burgandy from “Anchorman,” Maverick from “Top Gun,” McSteamy from “Grey’s Anatomy” and some guys from “Jersey Shore,” president Lisa Baldridge said.

Alpha Chi Omega members are selling tickets for $3. Tickets also can be purchased the night of the show for $5.

The University’s men’s track and field team took second place behind the top ranked team in the country at the American Southwest Conference championships.

The Patriots finished with 132 points behind McMurry’s 326 points.

The victory for McMurry is their twelfth consecutive conference win.

The women’s team placed fifth. Texas Lutheran edged out McMurry for the championship.

Jeff Chandler won three long-distance races: 10,000, 50,000 and 3000 meter.

That’s why the Campus Activities Board is conducting Novelty Relaxation and Finals Frenzy Bingo.

Novelty Relaxation is from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. May 4 in the Sports Café.

Neon Entertainment is providing four massage chairs, four spinal massagers, two foot massagers and an oxygen bar to help University students and faculty

The University’s men’s and women’s tennis team overcame shaky starts to win their third straight American Southwest Conference championship on Saturday.

Both teams received a first round bye after winning the ASC East division.

The women’s team defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor 5-1 Saturday to advance to the championship round on Sunday.
