Members of the Student Fees Advisory Committee recommend cutting funds for student organizations, departments and activities to cover a budget shortfall leaving advisers questioning how they will cope.

Dr. Howard Patterson, vice president for student affairs, asked departments to cut 5 percent from their budget to offset a projected flat year for enrollment and replenish the reserve fund.

Based in current enrollment, the student service fee could not collect enough money to maintain the budget. The committee decreased the budget by $124,461 to balance it.

Five Student Government Association senate seats resulted in ties after the tabulation of students’ votes last Friday.
Parliamentarian Rene Hernandez said SGA officials plan to release more information as soon as possible regarding the tied positions.

Campaigning disputes filed Friday question the validity of Sarah Khalifa’s election as president of the Student Government Association.

Khalifa, current SGA vice president, garnered 162 votes, with challengers Rusty Kuciemba and Jamie Newburn drawing 81 and 27, respectively.

Kuciemba filed a formal complaint Friday morning with the Judicial Review Board ...

Austin Norville’s performance of an original song earned first place at “Patriot’s Got Talent” on Wednesday night at the University Center Auditorium.

Norville defeated six other contestants, Monique Pasterczyc, Chase Neilson, Jennyfer Keohane, Patriot Talon adviser Vanessa Curry, Joseph Solomon and Brian Stites in the competition sponsored by the Campus Activity Board.

Joseph Solomon took second place for his rendition of Missy Higgin’s “Where I Stood,” and Brian Stites earned third for his performance of an original song.

The University’s baseball team earned their fifth American Southwest Conference division title over the weekend, despite dropping two of three games against Mississippi College.

A four game sweep over the University of the Ozarks puts the University’s softball team closer to earning a spot in the American Southwest Conference tournament April 29-May 1.

The Patriots defeated the Eagles 8-0 and 13-5 Friday night; 15-3 and 17-1 Saturday afternoon.
Game one Friday night was the Joey Cronin and Stacy Shepherd show.

Cronin doubled to lead of the game and scored on a ground out by Whitney Wyly. She then tripled in a run in the third inning and scored on a sacrifice fly.
