Heavy snowfall covered Tyler last week leaving behind more than 6 inches of snow. The University cancelled night classes Thursday and all classes on Friday. However, this did not keep students from being on campus. They built snowmen and played in the snow both days.

All the activity kept the University Police Department busy with noise complaints and snowmen duty. Various sources reported several snowmen had to be destroyed because of the sexually explicit nature in which they were created. Mounds of snow blocking pathways also had to be removed.

Students living on limited budgets find it difficult to purchase name brand software at affordable prices. Student, faculty and staff at the University are eligible to get name brand software at discounted prices.

Last semester software could be purchased at the University bookstore or the cashier’s office. Now HiEd.com hosts the University software store at https://webstore.hied.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/UTTYRetail.

With the fourth place spot in the American Southwest Conference East Division still up for grabs, the margin for error was down to a minimum as the University’s men’s basketball team took on the University of the Ozarks on Saturday. The Patriots kept their head above water by demolishing the Eagles 94-66 at the Herrington Patriot Center.

Student Government Association senate seats are currently vacant including the secretary’s. SGA president Amy Whitehouse said there are currently only 14 of 26 senate seats filled after Mikal Huff abruptly resigned as secretary Feb. 1 via e-mail.

Huff told the Patriot Talon he needed to devote more time to his 15-hour course load. “I learned a lot from being secretary and had fun doing it,“ he said. “I would recommend it to anyone if they can manage the time.”
