Puffing up on campus may go up in smoke if the Student Government Association decides to pursue a smoking ban.

At the SGA meeting on Oct. 22, SGA president Amy Whitehouse asked the senators to poll their constituents and collect data on if they support a campus-wide smoking ban. On Nov. 5, the senators turned in their findings of the smoking ban poll, in writing, to Whitehouse.

The Metamorphosis Café’s employees installed a new Detex alarm system after reports of students sneaking in food director Shannon Mariani said.
“A couple of students reported them to us,” he said.

Since the beginning of the fall semester, an estimated 20 to 30 students ate a meal without first paying. Mariani said students who were already in the building would open back doors to let students in.

ABILENE—Two University of Texas affiliates finished a 21/2 hour battle Saturday with Dallas defeating Tyler in an 11-10 semi-final game shoot out at Hardin-Simmons Soccer Complex.

Town Hall Meeting

Student Government Association officials are scheduled to hold a town hall meeting from 11-12:30 p.m. this Wednesday at the University Center Ballroom to discuss issues related to campus life.

Voters within the city of Winona made history Tuesday allowing for legalization of alcohol sales within the city limits. Winona becomes the first jurisdiction within Smith County to become “wet” since the county went “dry” in 1939, according to a Tyler Morning Telegraph article.

“If we do this right, I believe it will be a great benefit for our town,” Winona mayor Rusty Smith said. “If we don’t do it right, it could be a detriment to our town. Regardless of which side of the alcohol issue you were on, we must all work together now to make this a positive influence on our town.”
