Good said his involvement paid off, because it helped him get his current job as recruitment manager at The University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business.

Baylor University freshman Alex Eklund never imagined the Facebook status he posted after the Victoria’s Secret fashion show on Nov. 29 would attract the attention of people around the country.

 

The status read, “I’d rather have a Proverbs 31 women than a Victoria’s secret model.”

 

He posted the status after seeing female reactions to the fashion show on Facebook.

Senior and I Am Second president Kinsey Martin spent the weekend of Nov. 5 locked behind the bars of a Dallas area prison. Martin wasn’t serving time as a criminal, but as a minister to the inmates as part of Bill Glass’ company and I Am Second Locked Up Ministry.


Since this was Martin’s third year to participate in the event, he said he knew to expect nervous feelings and numbing sad stories of the convicted felons.

Vianny Guevara has been passionate about Young Life youth ministries since he became involved as a junior in high school.

 

 

Guevara said he instantly fell in love with the organization.

 


“That month at Young Life camp allowed me to grow spiritually. It also has allowed me to open up to people that keep up with on a regular basis,” Guevara said. “I glad that I can call them best friends.”

Tyler Junior College freshman Lewis Sharp grew up immersed in Jewish culture.

 

“It’s just what I was brought up to believe; and the older I got, the more I looked at it, and I thought, ‘You know, that makes sense,’” Sharp said.

 

Sharp, 18, is an economics major at TJC and is on the debate team.

 

He said Judaism has similarities to Christianity and Islam, which he considers to be the three largest world religions.

University student Derek Blain doesn’t believe in a higher power. He considers himself an Atheist.

 

“It’s not like I wake up, and I’m in some sort of deep existential depression where I’m like, ‘Oh, geez, this day is meaningless because there is no afterlife, and I have nothing to work for,’” Blain said. “Why would you need a point?”

University student James Gerety said he found himself in disbelief his dad had caught him."He pulled me back there one day and pulled up the Web site," Gerety said. "He sat me down and was like, ‘ what's this?'" Gerety said he had found a Web site to view pornography that contained other things like jokes and funny videos, and he thought that would disguise what he was actually doing.

Ever wanted to finish watching a Netflix movie in between classes, or during a study break at the coffee shop?

On Aug. 26, Netflix released its free application for iPhones and iPads, which allows consumers to stream movies directly to a mobile device.

"I use the Netflix app for streaming instant-queue movies to my phone, and it's great, because I can watch movies when I'm waiting at the doctors office or on road trips and stuff," Zach Matson, a former University student and SuddenLink employee, said.

Grammy Award nominee and jazz musician Steve Wiest, formerly of the Maynard Ferguson Band, is scheduled to appear at the University as a special guest of the Department of Music and UT Tyler Friends of the Arts.

The appearance is set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Art Center during a concert with the UT Tyler Jazz Patriots and Jazz Ensemble.

Wiest is the director of the University of North Texas One O’Clock Lab Band.
