Spring sports at the University ended May 21 when the Patriots' baseball team lost 9-8 to Mississippi College, eliminating them from the NCAA Div. III Regional tournament in McMinnville, Ore.

The team lost its first contest in Oregon 12-6 to Pomona-Pitzer, and kept itself in the tournament by defeating Chapman 6-5 before losing to the Choctaws.

I don't know much about golf. Sure I know about golf clubs, carts and plaid sweater vests, but I'm clueless about the rules and the lingo.

So traveling to Hershey, Pa. to cover the University's men's golf team in the NCAA Div. III National Championship was a little unnerving.

Patriot tennis shows strong at NCAA Regional

PITTSBURGH, Pa -The UT Tyler men's tennis team started strong in the first round of the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament at Carnegie Mellon University on Thursday.

The men won three doubles and two singles matches against the Marywood University, the champions of the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

David Ashlock and Andrew Reznik defeated Daniel Pfafman and Greg Chilson 8-2. Nick Kreines and Brad Fenter defeated Todd Doran and Nolan Wyatt 8-2. Adam Chirhart and Joshua Chavez defeated Barrett Wentworth and Ethan Jones 8-1.

HERSHEY, Pa. - It was moving day at the NCAA Div. III National golf tournament in Hershey, Pa., and moving is exactly what the UT Tyler men's team did.

The Patriots turned in a score of 291 (+3) and sit tied for seventh with Greensboro College at 47 over.

Methodist (N.C) holds a three day lead at 24 over, five shots ahead of Huntingdon College.

Joey Rippel fired a 70 (-2) at Hershey Links to lead the team in round three. Brandon Ellis followed shooting even par. Tynan Day rebounded from day two, shooting 74.

HERSHEY, Pa. - The UT Tyler men's golf team sits three strokes outside the top 10 after two rounds at the NCAA Div. III national golf tournament in Hershey, Pa.

The team is currently tied for 11th with a two-day score of 616, shooting 307 on day one at Hershey Links and 309 on day two at Hershey Country Club-East. Methodist leads with a two day total of 597.

The Mr. Alpha Chi pageant brought back that loving feeling to the East Texas Crisis Center on Thursday night by raising $1,143 for women and children of domestic violence.

Mark Austin Norville, a junior, portrayed Maverick from "Top Gun" and won the title of Mr. Alpha Chi along with a $150 prize.

"I really had no idea I would win, but I put my best foot forward," Norville said.

Patrick New, Marco Weidmer and Brett Mariani won the title of first runner-up competing together as Team Anchorman, with each of them portraying a different character from "Anchorman."
