The University’s men’s and women’s tennis team overcame shaky starts to win their third straight American Southwest Conference championship on Saturday.

Both teams received a first round bye after winning the ASC East division.

The women’s team defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor 5-1 Saturday to advance to the championship round on Sunday.

The University’s men’s track and field team took second place behind the top ranked team in the country at the American Southwest Conference championships.

The Patriots finished with 132 points behind McMurry’s 326 points.

The victory for McMurry is their twelfth consecutive conference win.

The women’s team placed fifth. Texas Lutheran edged out McMurry for the championship.

Jeff Chandler won three long-distance races: 10,000, 50,000 and 3000 meter.

The Student Government Association members conducted their weekly meeting Thursday with no mention of the disputed president position or the five tied senate seats resulting from last week’s elections.

SGA presidential candidate Rusty Kuciemba filed a formal complaint to the Judicial Review Board on April 16 alleging Sara Khalifa, one of his opponents, received an unfair campaign advantage.

What qualities do you possess that make you a good leader?
I believe that I am very goal-oriented. I have good communication skills, and I am able to see different perspectives in every situation.

“Guys are Jerks.” Unfortunately, this statement is too often true. Most male college students are not chivalrous. Instead of seeing men opening doors for ladies, or helping someone carry a heavy load, the guys are too occupied talking with their friends or texting to show common decency.

Novelty Relaxation is from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. May 4 in the Sports Café.

Neon Entertainment is providing four massage chairs, four spinal massagers, two foot massagers and an oxygen bar to help University students and faculty

Economics major Jennah Lewis owes her college education, in part, to a little dimpled ball and the people who love to hit it.

Call it philanthropic fun for participants who pay to play in the annual Patriot Golf Classic.

The event has raised $1.6 million for University scholarships since its inception nearly 34 years ago, officials said.

For Lewis, the scholarship fund is helping her achieve her goal — a college education.

“Neither of my parents got a college education,” she said. “I always did well in high school, so I knew I was going to college.”

Alpha Chi Omega is bringing Hollywood stars to the University Center Ballroom from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday.

It’s part of this year’s Mr. Alpha Chi pageant, where male University students dress up as their favorite Hollywood characters to compete for a $150 prize.

“Rumor has it there will be characters like Ron Burgandy from “Anchorman,” Maverick from “Top Gun,” McSteamy from “Grey’s Anatomy” and some guys from “Jersey Shore,” president Lisa Baldridge said.

Alpha Chi Omega members are selling tickets for $3. Tickets also can be purchased the night of the show for $5.

The 11th ranked University men’s golf team advances to the NCAA Golf Championship after winning the team’s first-ever American Southwest Conference Championship last week at Horseshoe Bay.

The ASC championship is the team’s seventh consecutive tournament win, a streak Head Coach King Campbell said is the second-longest in the nation.
