The fall golf season ended on a high note with both men’s and women’s teams taking first place at the Schreiner Fall Classic early last week in Kerrville. The men finished the two day tournament with a score of 576, beating defending conference champion Mary Hardin-Baylor by four shots.

Joey Rippel brought home an individual title with scores of 74 and 65. Rippel’s 65 on day two ties the program’s lowest round record. Brandon Ellis finished one stroke behind Rippel and finished tied for second. Ellis’ scores of 68 and 72 tied him with Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Aaron Massey.

A sixth minute goal by Ashley Crawford and two Edward Anaya goals turned out to all the Patriots men and women soccer team needed to defeat East Texas Baptist University last Monday night at Citizen’s 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

The women’s team held their second place position in the American Southwest Conference with a 3-0 victory over the Tigers. They remain one game behind undefeated Hardin-Simmons. The men kept their playoff hopes alive with the victory.  They remain one game out of the last conference tournament spot.

Saturday is the last day to donate to PATH's Winter Coats for Kids drive.

Gently used coats may be dropped off at any participating dry cleaners where they will be cleaned for free and given to PATH for distribution.

Participating Cleaners include Dry Clean Super Store, Eagle Cleaners, Hart's Cleaners, Lucky Cleaners, Regency Cleaners, Shannon's Cleaners, VIP Cleaners and West Gentry Dry Cleaners. Each business will have a Coats for Kids poster displayed in the window.

New coats can be taken directly to the PATH office, 402 W. Front St., Tyler.

Both men’s and women’s basketball teams were selected to finish fourth in the American Southwest East Division in the annual preseason poll conducted by conference head coaches, sports information directors and media members.

The Patriots’ men received 84 points in the poll. Defending conference champions, the University of Texas at Dallas, received 133 total points, 13 first place votes and the top spot. Mississippi College was selected to finish second, receiving 125 points and seven first place votes.

There are two forms of wireless network connections at the University, but only Secure* Air keeps personal information private. Both Secure*Air and Patriot*Air are designed for the exclusive use of the Patriot community, which includes University students, faculty, staff, and official guests of the University.

Secure*Air is a secure and encrypted wireless connection to the Internet while Patriot*Air is an unencrypted and unprotected wireless connection to the Internet. An unprotected connection means sensitive or confidential information sent over Patriot*Air may be compromised.

Patriot Act, a University theatre club, is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Fine Arts Building.

The club is making plans to organize improvisational nights and possibly a spring theatre production, members said. The meeting is open to anyone interested in theatre and the art of performance.

Debate team members at the University recently received honors at a national tournament, Dr. Charles Walts, director of forensics and assistant professor of speech communication, announced.

Juniors Travis Smith and Alex Warren placed second after losing to Washburn University in the final round of the McKendree University Debate Tournament held earlier this month in Lebanon, Ill.

Jordan Innerarity, a senior of the University and sophomore Kinsey Martin placed fourth in the quarterfinals.
The debate team placed fifth overall in the sweepstakes points.
