Former alumni affairs director and annual fund coordinator Bobbye Rucker officially resigned Monday citing health reasons for her departure from the University.

“She has been talking about the possibility of retiring with me for a number of weeks before she actually decided for sure to do it,” Jerre Iversen, vice president for university advancement said.

Sixteen-year-old Kaytie Christopherson, a high school student from Casper, Wyoming, received a $28,000 Chevy Colorado from her school district.

According to a newspaper article in the Tyler Morning Telegraph five other public school districts throughout the country awarded vehicles to students for exceptional behavior.

Although raised medians are troublesome and unavoidable, they do help to prevent accidents.

Raised medians are designed to direct traffic flow in a certain direction and prevent drivers from making unsafe turns.

For example, an unsafe U-turn caused the four-car accident that occurred two weeks ago at the intersection of South Broadway and Loop 323.

Although raised medians have several positive effects there are a few downfalls as well.

Where medians are in place along South Broadway and the loop, it’s necessary to drive all the way down to the intersection to make a U-turn.

About 200 people gathered to dedicate the new $18 million University Center addition in the second floor ballroom on March 5.

“It is wonderful to dedicate and open this addition to our University Center,” President Rodney Mabry told the crowd. “It is quite a nice place as you can see from this portion and I hope that you will look at other parts of this addition.”

The 43,400 square foot addition is being paid entirely by a $100 per semester student union fee University students approved four years ago, Mabry said.
