The Palestine campus construction project received an additional $319,515 this summer as part of a commitment of almost two million dollars from the Texas Area Fund Foundation for campus expansion. The current campus uses an old textile factory on Loop 256 in Palestine with about 50 students from the Palestine area.

Students, faculty and staff will have to wait a little longer to flood into the new University Center.

Administrators wanted the new UC completed by summer’s end, but construction setbacks made that goal all but impossible.

Delays and setbacks have held up University Center construction: from non-seasonal heavy rains to back-ordered steel.

After one year as the assistant athletic director, Dr. Howard Patterson named baseball coach James Vilade the new University athletic director on Thursday.

The University alumni association is hoping students will compete for the chance to write the first fight song for the University since its inception in 1979.

The association plans to give away $100 to the winner who writes the best fight song to be debuted during homecoming in the fall.

May 16 – Theft of a Toshiba USB optical mouse was reported stolen from the University.

May 19 – A criminal trespass warning was issued to a white male at the Ratliff Building North.

May 28 – Theft of a Sony Handycam was reported at the Math and Science Building.

May 30 – Police were called to assist EMS regarding two under age drinkers at University Pines.

June 4 – A Dell flat screen computer monitor was reported stolen from the Business Building.

University students elected David McAlpin as Student Government Associate Treasurer, a position on the executive council, in an unprecedented summer election.

McAlpin won the June 18 election with a total of 31 votes out of 42 total.

A month ago this article would have been titled “Why I’m buying a new iPhone,” except I changed my mind.
