More than a dozen campus leaders and organizations are among the University’s picks for 2009 student leadership and service awards, sponsored by Student Life and Leadership.
Students, faculty and staff submitted a list of nominees. A special committee comprised of faculty and staff picked the winners, said Dr. Howard Patterson, vice president for student affairs.
Free Enterprise received the Student Organization of the Year award. Two groups tied for Program of the Year: Gamma Phi Beta’s Crescent Classic
Moonlight Tournament and Colleges Against Cancer’s Relay for Life, a fundraiser of the American Cancer Society.
SGA awards and recipients include: Perfect Attendance, Mikal Huff, Sara Khalifa, Cameron Legar and Yesenia Lugo; Perseverance Award, Aaron Hamrick; Spirit Award, Ian McDaniel; Extra Mile Award, Sara Khalifa; Senator of the Year, Yesenia Lugo. Also honored: 2009 graduates Kerrie Anne Ambort, Tim Ballard, Aaron Hamrick, Rene Hernandez and Joseph Solomon.
Other award winners include: the Dr. Robert L. Jones Student Leadership Award, Kerrie Anne Ambort; Fraternity Man of the Year, William Howard Catchings III; Sorority Woman of the Year, Cassie Osborn; President’s Volunteer Service Awards, Warren Brown and Lasi McArthur.
Emerging Leader Awards were given to Ursula Diaz, Sarah Moore and Lee Trammell; Legacy Award, Robert Collier.
There was a tie for Outstanding Student Organization President. Awards were given to Clint McAdams and Joseph Solomon; Outstanding Student Organization Adviser, Karen Koerber-Timmons; and Outstanding Student Organization Member, Mir Alikhan.
