Students interested in electing their representatives can vote for Student Government Association positions scheduled for April 22 and 23.

Polling stations are scheduled to be located in the lobby of the Herrington Patriot Center and the University Center expansion at the top of the stairs near the entrance to the Metamorphosis Café.

The SGA serves as the student’s voice of the student body to the administration, officials said.

Candidates must be full-time students who have a grade point average greater than 2.5.

Students also must be members of the organization or housing complex they want to represent, according to the SGA bylaws.

Parliamentarian Rene Hernandez said those who submitted candidacy applications by the March 24 deadline would have their names printed on the election ballot.

Others may still run as write-in candidates where students can write the candidate’s name on a blank line on the ballot.

Hernandez also said only those who attended the meeting are permitted to publicly campaign with the use of signs and fliers. Those who wish to run for office but did not attend the candidates meeting may only use word-of-mouth advertising, Hernandez said.

Hernandez said he received 16 applications, but only 15 students attended the meeting.

SGA adviser Ona Tolliver said she hopes to operate a full senate next year. The current senate has 12 vacant seats in various colleges and housing complexes.

Qualified students may be appointed to these positions by the student body president, who presents them before the senate for a confirmation vote.
