Student Government Association officials plan to conduct a mandatory candidates meeting on Wednesday for all students interested in running for office.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Room 2255 of the Herrington Patriot Center.

Attendance is mandatory for those planning to campaign as a “write-in candidate,” according to SGA bylaws.

Officials plan to distribute the complete written rules and regulations for campaigning at the meeting.

Students who cannot attend because of scheduling conflicts must schedule a meeting with Parliamentarian Rene Hernandez within one week of the scheduled meeting, according to SGA bylaws.

SGA adviser Ona Tolliver encourages all interested students to attend the meeting.

“Everyone has a voice,” she said.

The SGA senate consists of five executive board positions, five senators from the freshmen class, three senators from each of the five colleges and two senators from each of the three campus residential facilities.

The executive board consists of the president, vice president, secretary, parliamentarian and treasurer.

Students can campaign for one executive board position and one senator position for which they are qualified.

To qualify, students must be a member of the school, program, or housing facility they hope to represent in the senate, according to SGA bylaws.

The SGA website indicated there are nine seats open for the current semester.

Tolliver said she is excited about the upcoming elections and is “hoping to operate a full senate next year.”
