Spring Break has come and gone. For anyone who stayed in East Texas, you know that the weather was less than suitable for any sort of televised MTV type party. This doesn’t mean you can’t have a sound track for spring.
And for your personal sound track, iTunes is offering “Spring Break Shuffle 2009;” a collection of songs designed to help start the party. Described as top pop hits, the list spans multiple genres.
Some of these songs have not been playing on radio and in clubs since last summer, and others are currently in heavy rotation.
The real highlights are the songs you may not have heard yet.
MGMT gained popularity in 2008 with a solid debut album, but have been mostly neglected locally.
Asher Roth and Kid Cudi have both been listed by numerous magazines as “artists to watch” in 2009. The Kings of Leon (although from the United States) are superstars overseas, but have limited success stateside.
30H!3 are getting radio time, but should be played back to back with any track released by LMFAO. And, Lonely Island, the collaboration of comedy songs based on the Saturday Night Live digital shorts featuring Andy Samberg, friends, and an impressive guest list including Justin Timberlake and T-Pain; may be silly, but actually make decent music.
If listened to in track order, the album begins with something new, flows with genre shifts, but stays familiar, and ends with something funny to leave the listener in good spirits.
As a compilation, “Spring Break Shuffle 2009” is a well rounded set of songs that should give most everyone a reason to roll down their windows and enjoy spring ... if the weather stays nice enough.
