University Center expansion enters 11th hour

University officials are ready to open the doors to the University Center expansion starting Dec. 22 as long as everything goes according to plan.

Subway and the book store are scheduled to move into the building where the Metamorphosis cafe is, while the Met moves into the expansion.

When the current UC renovation is completed, Subway and the book store will return, Clark said.

For the time being, Subway customers will have to walk to the Physical and Health Education building to get their sandwich fix.

But the UC expansion hasn’t been without its pitfalls.

Unseasonable rain in summer 2007, and shipment delays in 2008 pushed back the tentative date.

Originally the expansion was scheduled to open this fall, but those delays pushed it back until December, and University administrators are hopeful for a Spring opening.

Gregg Lassen, vice president of business affairs, said the December date is final, and students will be able to eat and enjoy the new facility in the spring.
