The president’s cabinet limited bus parking on campus last week in an effort to improve campus parking, chief of staff Jesse Acosta announced.
“The new policy requires buses to offload their passengers at the event location (eg. Cowan Center or Patriot Center) and park in the Ornelas Activity Center lots,” Acosta wrote in a memorandum. “When an event ends, the buses can be called and stationed along campus streets for the easy and safe loading of passengers.”
Acosta said the policy is effective immediately and will be enforced by campus police. He said the new policy would improve the parking situation, especially when construction begins on the old portion of the University Center.
Acosta said parking Lots 2, 3 and 4 are going to be partially blocked during construction, scheduled to begin in the spring semester.
Those lots are the ones in front of the University Center, Administration Building and Herrington Patriot Center.
Student Government Association president Kerrie Ambort brought the bus parking issue to the attention of the cabinet after an Oct. 20 “Campus Voice” segment in the Patriot Talon addressed blocked parking spaces.
Ambort said she brought the issue to the president’s cabinet and they voted for a new policy.
