University needs more motorcycle only parking

The University needs more motorcycle parking and students who drive motorcycles should be required to park in their designated parking spots.

Designated motorcycle parking spots would be a better use of parking areas. Motorcycle parking spots take up less room than parking spots for cars. More vehicles would be able to fit into a single parking area if more motorcycle parking is installed.

Motorcycle parking areas also would be safer for students at the University. If motorcyclists all parked together, students in cars would know exactly where to expect motorcycles to be.

While some students who drive motorcycles may perceive designated parking as unfair, it would ultimately be for their own good.

Students in cars will always know where motorcyclists are with designated motorcycle parking. Students running to class tend to zip into parking spots and have a good chance of not seeing a motorcycle in a parking spot. If more motorcycle parking is made, cars will know exactly where they are.

Furthermore, motorcyclists have a better chance of getting prime parking spots.

Motorcycle parking may appear to be an inconvenience on the surface. Designated motorcycle parking would be a better utilization of the on campus space.

I agree and disagree with

I agree and disagree with you. More cycle parking would be great. As it is, the only areas I have found are by the Patriot center and the business building (no where near any of my classes.) Any time I am in those parking lots, I use the cycle space. But in the meantime, I hope all car-driving students keep this in mind: motorcyclists pay the same for parking as the rest of you and we legally have the right to take up a whole space to ourselves. However, you will rarely see a single motorcycle in a space; as a rule, we try to park together in groups for our own safety and for everyone else's convenience. I feel campus cyclists are using the parking space very prudently. I am much more concerned about the legions of University Pines and Varsity Place students who are too lazy to walk from their apartments to class. Their cars take up way more space than the 15 motorcycles on campus.
