The University debate team is traveling to new heights of competition.
Although the team has not found success thus far in the tournament season, they are learning, said Jeffrey Hobbs, director of forensics.
Both tournaments this semester had at least 40 teams which showed debaters and University Director of Forensics Jeffrey Hobbs what is required for national success.
The debate team of senior David Brown and junior Jordan Innerity has been to two tournaments this semester, William Jewell College and the University of Wyoming.
At William Jewell College the team had a win-loss record of 2-4, and 3-4 at the University of Wyoming in the preliminary rounds.
The University debate team began the semester with hope of becoming a nationally recognized team. The debate team competes in National Parliamentary Debate Association competition.
“The national level requires clearer explanation of arguments and stronger evidence,” Hobbs said.
The debate team has four more tournaments for the semester, which will be on the regional level. At the end of the semester Hobbs is leaving the University to move to Thailand, where his wife was born.
